Asociația Prietenia was founded in 1996 as a non-governmental, apolitical and non-profit organization, on the initiative of parents, teachers and individuals concerned with creating appropriate services for people with disabilities.

From the very beginning, the association’s activity was inspired by the principles of curative pedagogy and social therapy initiated by Rudolf Steiner, promoting respect for the uniqueness of each person and the development of individual potential in an environment based on dignity, safety and belonging.

The international collaborations established since the first years of activity have contributed significantly to the development and consolidation of the Prietenia Association. Our mentors and friends from Germany and Switzerland – Heleen Biekart, Mathias Clauberg and Volker Ermuth, were actively involved in laying the foundations of the association, offering professional guidance, moral support and expertise in the field of curative pedagogy and social therapy. Through their experience, dedication and trust, they have contributed to the formation of the identity and values that underlie our activity today.

A special role was also played by the long-term collaboration with the Sonnhalde Gempen Association from Switzerland, a partner who has been constantly with us in the process of organizational development, professional training and exchange of good practices. This collaboration has represented and continues to represent a valuable source of inspiration and support for the Prietenia community.

Throughout the almost three decades of activity, the Prietenia Association has developed social services for adults with disabilities, offering support for the development of personal autonomy, social integration and active participation in community life.

Starting with 2016, the social services: the Day Center and the Protected Housing, have been licensed according to the legislation in force, thus strengthening the association’s commitment to quality services and respect for the rights of beneficiaries.

Today, Prietenia is more than a provider of social services. It is a community where beneficiaries, employees, volunteers and partners build together a place of respect, trust and mutual support – a place that many call simply: home.

Motto:
“Maximum independence, with minimum assistance.”
