CENTER FOR CURATIVE PEDAGOGY AND SOCIAL THERAPY “CORABIA”

The “CORABIA” Center was founded in 1996, in Bucharest, at the initiative of some teachers and parents, with the support of the “Prietenia” Association in Bucharest and the partner institution “Schulheim Sonnhalde” in Gempen/Switzerland, which aim to promote curative pedagogy and anthroposophically oriented social therapy.

The center educates children from all sectors of Bucharest and the surrounding counties. It started with a number of 20 students, and currently 79 students with serious, severe, associated and profound disabilities are enrolled.
It is a special education, pre-university, state school unit, established by Order of the Ministry of Education no. 520, of 4.X.1996, which operates as an educational alternative of curative pedagogy and social therapy, currently being a structure attached to the Inclusive Education School Center no. 1
It is a unitary school, based on the continuity of the students’ training in the same group, throughout their schooling, intended for children with serious, severe, associated and profound disabilities who need spiritual care.
Parents who turn to the “Corabia” Center gradually gain confidence that their children, who need spiritual care, are treated with the same respect as other children, highlighting their uniqueness and hidden potential.
The teaching staff is formed by co-opting teachers specialized in the educational alternative of curative pedagogy and is improved through continuing education courses at the level of the institution or other organizations.
The “inner attitude” of the curative pedagogue is based on the conviction that behind the external appearance of a person with special needs lies an intact spiritual individuality.

The task of the center:

The creation of a pedagogical-therapeutic community, in which people are enabled to find their own possibilities for evolution.
The first task is to strengthen the child’s confidence in life.
The practice of a healing pedagogical art, based on the study of Rudolf Steiner’s anthropology, which takes into account the spiritual-soul realities.

Support through the Friendship Association:

The “Prietenia” Association was founded in 1996 and is a non-governmental, apolitical, non-profit organization, aiming to support social integration activities for children and adults with serious, severe, associated and profound mental disabilities within the “Corabia” Center for Curative Pedagogy and Social Therapy.

The members of the Association are parents, teachers and other people eager to help children, young people and adults who could not be integrated into any other education and work system in Romania.

Methodological particularities:

the rhythmic modeling of teaching within the class hour, the day, the week and the annual cycle of Christian holidays, gives it a healing character;
teaching in epochs (modules) of 3-4 weeks, daily, at the same time in the morning, the same subjects, strengthens concentration;

artistic practice through eurythmy, recitation, music, painting, serves to educate the will;

Practical-craft activities, woodcarving, weaving, working with wool, cooking, all have therapeutic value.

The “Prietenia” Association supports and complements the activity in and out of school of the 79 students. It provides support in carrying out extracurricular and extracurricular activities within the school (school celebrations, puppet theater, eurythmic moments, visits to museums, excursions, organization of Bazaars with products made by parents, students, teachers.

purchases teaching materials (wool, Stockmar wax crayons, Stockmar wax cubes, Stockmar watercolors, wax, colored pencils, wax paper, tissue paper – products specific to Waldorf schools) necessary for carrying out activities in C.P.C.T.S. “Corabia”.
